Business Development Content Marketer

Progressive Power Lab seeks a motivated Business Development Content Marketer who will source, research, and write content that positions PPL and its brands as industry thought leaders and premier partners for progressive nonprofit and for-profit organizations.  As an individual with subject matter knowledge of our key areas of work – revenue generation and technology innovation for systemic social good – this marketer will stay abreast of developments in these areas as well as the progressive sector, working with subject matter experts on the team to increase the companies’ visibility among potential and current partners.

The Progressive Power Lab team manages nonprofit and for-profit organizations working to realize democracy, achieve justice, and restore our environment. Our team provides management and marketing services to PPL partners that provide technology, canvassing services, grassroots organizing services, financing, and technical support to organizations moving millions of people and dollars into action.

  • Progressive Multiplier – The Progressive Multiplier is a funding intermediary offering diverse grants and financing options to progressive nonprofits to help them test and scale their fundraising efforts.
  • Membership Drive – Membership Drive provides cutting edge Salesforce Apps to that enable nonprofits and companies to enlist people in their causes. The Field is available on the Salesforce AppExchange for sales, political, and fundraising canvasses. Membership Drive tools are built to support the work of progressive organizations and are available to anyone in the Salesforce AppExchange marketplace.

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate primarily with PPL’s CEO and Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer to define promotional needs to be supported by content marketing.
  • Develop custom proposals for prospective institutional funders and major individual donors, in collaboration with PM team members responsible for fundraising.
  • Create, write, and edit high-quality storytelling and business thought leadership content including but not limited to case studies, blogs, industry articles, social posts, one-pagers, video scripts, infographics, white papers, webinars and more.
  • Conduct research and interviews to gather information to support narrative development.
  • Translate technical information and industry jargon into clear, accessible text.
  • Lead concept development of infographics, for execution by a contracted designer, that explain complex messages clearly.
  • Revise drafts in response to feedback and comments in collaboration with the team.
  • Harmonize drafts written by multiple writers as needed.
  • Coordinate with Membership Drive and The Field sales team to create content for business development weekly campaigns. Campaigns are executed through Pardot by sales team.
  • Assist in developing blog content plan based on research and content recommendations from team.
  • Help support conference presence and promotional opportunities related to speaking engagements/sponsorships with content deliverables.

What skills we need you to have

You’re described as “goal oriented,” “detail oriented,” “driven,” “someone who can just figure it out,” “self-motivated,” and “collaborative.” PPL brands are largely start ups so a love of building things and a desire to create the systems that best support the work without requiring them to push your work forward in real time is a must.

  • Bachelor’s degree+ in journalism, English, business writing or a related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • 5+ years of proposal, thought leadership and collateral writing experience.
  • Deep knowledge of the progressive sector is required.


  • $75K range commensurate with experience
